I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating. Purposely trying to induce mania is a terrible idea. Tampering with your medication in order to throw yourself into a manic episode is a very bad idea that can cause more problems than you can imagine.
First of all, your medication is given to you in a specific dose to avoid depressive and manic episodes. If you don’t take it as prescribed you can induce mania but you are more likely to bring on a depressive episode. If you are already depressed, you can worsen your depression and cause suicidal ideation. Certain medications can also cause toxicity if not taken correctly. Don’t take the chance.
Have you ever heard the old adage “what goes up must come down”? Have you ever crashed after a manic episode? You don’t want to. You come down hard and it’s easy to hit rock bottom. If you’re depressed and trying to “feel better”, you’re just going to end up feeling worse in the long run.
Being manic isn’t as great as you think it is. As I told someone just days ago, when you’re depressed you hurt yourself and when you’re manic you hurt others. You also end up in debt, getting arrested, or just making bad choices altogether. You’ll regret it eventually. Ask anyone who has had multiple manic episodes. It’s like waking up weeks or months later asking yourself what you have done and being filled with regret. It’s enough to cause a full-blown depressive episode.
My point? If you manage to induce mania, you’re going to crash hard and you will regret it. Think about it.
