The acclaimed “Voices of” series has announced a release date for Voices of Bipolar Disorder. The book is scheduled to be released on January 1, 2010 but is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
As many of you know, I have a piece that will be published in this book. Of course that is the initial reason that I am looking forward to the release of this book, but I am also quite interested in what others with bipolar disorder have to say about their illness. I believe that this book will be a great help to people who have the disorder and do not know anyone else who does. I think it will give comfort to those who feel isolated by letting them see that they aren’t alone.
The release of the book does make me a bit anxious. I have not allowed anyone to read my essay and I am a bit concerned about their reactions. Many of the people around me do not understand the depth of my illness and I think it will be a real eye-opener for some of them. Believe it or not, there are people that know me who have no clue that I have ever been suicidal. It’s just not something that comes up in conversation, you know?
I do know several people nearby that have bipolar disorder but they aren’t like me. They seem to be “along for the ride” rather than trying to take control and drive. It makes a world of difference. I know that I cannot control my illness and I cannot prevent episodes but there are little things I can do to make the episodes less severe and less frequent. I work hard to recognize things that help me and hurt me and I take action. I don’t know anyone else who does this.
Anyway, the book will be released January 1, 2010.
