I don't take any of the new medications. In fact, I don't take a medication made just for treating bipolar disorder - I take lamictal which is made to treat epilepsy. It has a lot less side effects and it takes the edge off so I can maintain control. When I started writing this blog, I started recognizing things that triggered episodes - alcohol, lack of sleep or routine, horror movies...even certain people - and I eliminated all of those from my life. It made a huge difference for me.

Its a conspiracy with the Dr.s Health and Drug Manufacturers to keep padding there pockets and keep using the mental health patience as there lab ratts. I went to Dr's shrinks ect for years through the same health care facility. As I was on Ssi Disability and the Dr's charged me personally for giving me free samples of these pills that say right on the box NOT FOR RESALE" So how could a 43 yr old man that has lost everything think any different??

Hi, Kim. Please note that this was a guest post and was not written by me, nor am I responsible for its contents.

With that being said, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder I don't even remember how long ago, but looking back I can recognize the symptoms more than 20 years ago in my life. I suffered some pretty rough years in my early 30s, until I realized that medication isn't a magical cure. Don't get me wrong - I have to take medication to help control my symptoms, but medication doesn't do it all alone. There were things I recognized that worked for me along with the medication, and I have had no major episodes in more than two years. If you need someone to talk to, feel free to email me at support@allaboutbipolar.com.
